Working for Fire Islanders Since 1955

The Fire Island Association represents the interests of all seventeen communities, 4000 homes, and dozens of businesses on Fire Island. As a steward of this resource, FIA takes very seriously its obligation to weigh the consequences of many issues and activities on the Island and how they might impact the future of Fire Island as a whole and its enjoyment by future generations.

Help us preserve the island you love

Fire Island has always been a “paradise” for its residents. Over the years, the 17 Fire Island communities have collectively demonstrated a passionate determination for protecting the fragile barrier beach environment and preserving the unique Fire Island lifestyle. In 1962, for example, when the island was threatened with a 4-lane parkway for cars, Island residents from several communities united to prevent construction of “The Moses Road,” affirming the seashore’s principle of natural conservancy, and assuring that the rate of community development would be kept to reasonable levels.

With its stunning natural environment, outstanding recreational opportunities, and relaxed quality of life, Fire Island is a unique and irreplaceable resource for residents and visitors alike.
