Saltaire
Founded in 1911, Saltaire is one of only two incorporated villages on the island, with an elected Board of Trustees and Village government that includes a Justice Court as well as Public Safety and Maintenance departments. Over the years, the community has remained almost exclusively residential and family-oriented, with over 400 homes and a modern food market and liquor store as its only commercial enterprises. Saltaire features a day camp, playground, a recreation program with organized sports, a large ballfield and basketball court, a marina, bay swimming area with lanes, bay and ocean lifeguards, a library, Post Office, two churches, and a medical clinic for walk-in care. The Saltaire Volunteer Fire Company provides fire and ambulance services and the private-member Saltaire Yacht Club offers sailing, tennis, dining and social activities. The Saltaire Citizens’ Association organizes community events including the Sea & Sand Festival, Artisan Fair & Bay Picnic, Jogathon, and Fall Festival.
