News from FIA - vol. 1, issue 2
Welcome to the second issue of News from FIA.
Our goal is to keep you informed about topics that matter to all Fire Islanders. After tropical storms Lee and Ophelia pummeled our beaches and dunes three weeks ago, we circulated an FIA UPDATE with pictures of the damage up and down the island. We also reported on the coordinated efforts by FIA, our six eastern communities, Suffolk County, and our elected officials to urge the Army Corps to add repair of the severely damaged east end beaches to their currently scheduled project to restore the west end shoreline. Click here to read our FIA UPDATE.
In this issue of NEWS from FIA, we turn to some lighter Fire Island topics:

A story about a long-standing tradition at Water Island … their annual celebration of the late poet, Frank O’Hara, honoring his rich life and remembering his tragic demise following an accident in 1966 on the beach.
The summer flew by quickly, but many insist that October is the best time of year on the island. Whether you have closed up your house, or you are out here enjoying the crisp air and taking long walks on empty beaches, thanks so much for your continued support.
Enjoy News from FIA!
Warm regards,
