Fire Island Pines

Walkway lined with flags and pink flowered trees

Fire Island Pines is a predominantly LGBTQ+ community that stretches 1.5 miles. Settled in 1876 by the Coast Guard and incorporated in 1953, the Pines, once a haven for nudists, is now home to diverse creatives and professionals. With approximately 640 houses and 100 co-op apartments, the Pines has many notable houses, most of them Mid-century Modern. Restaurants, bars, a grocery store, a liquor store, shops, and a hotel flank its harbor. The community hosts frequent fundraisers for social causes, Broadway-quality shows, and a dance festival. Two annual highlights are the Pines Party, a popular beach party and fundraiser, and the Invasion, when drag queens from Cherry Grove "invade" the Pines on July 4th for a celebration of pride and unity.
